Attract Outstanding Faculty and Staff

In an increasing competitive international market, we need to reinforce our commitment to attract and retain excellent faculty and staff at the university.

We strive to make UBC an employer of choice for outstanding faculty and staff.

What have we accomplished?

We launched our eRecruit online recruiting system for all staff positions at the university. In the first year of eRecruit, 1,846 staff position and 10 faculty positions were posted using the new system, with 55,236 applications received.

The university opened five new daycare centres in Vancouver in 2009. UBC Child Care Services added 108 new spaces (infant to five years of age).

We promote online orientations for faculty and staff, as well as continue to welcome new faculty and staff to the UBC campuses with university-wide in-person orientation sessions.

We have created an informational document concerning the types and descriptions available for student appointments on campus.

What are we doing?

We are working to:

  • Develop a mentoring program for new faculty
  • Continue to increase the number of child care spaces at the Vancouver campus
  • Expand our eRecruit online recruiting processes to faculty positions across the university
  • Expand the services of the Work-Life Relocation Services Centre
  • Scope the University’s needs related to workforce planning.
  • Review findings from recruitment analysis and create UBC’s recruitment strategy, including identifying UBC’s role in strategic recruiting.
  • Develop a concept to facilitate the matching of principal investigators (PIs) and research staff.
