Erin Creak’s Story

In March 2009, I spent three weeks in the capital city of Malawi – Lilongwe. I worked with Episcopal Commission of Malawi staff to create a basic website and trained three individuals on how to further develop and update the site.

The Leave for Change program was an incredible opportunity for me to volunteer overseas while still retaining my job.  I got the chance to experience the daily rhythms of a Malawian working life – something I would not have encountered if I had just been passing through as a backpack tourist.  The program ensured I had a place to stay, people to orient me to the workplace and the city, and an opportunity to connect with other volunteers.   I learned new skills, met lovely people and had the trip of a lifetime. I can’t recommend the program enough.
