Application Process

Before beginning the application process, please review the eligibility criteria. You will need to talk with your supervisor about applying in the Leave for Change program. You should also be familiar with the roles and responsibilities you will have as a program participant. Please visit the Uniterra site to view the available Leave for Change volunteer positions. It is recommended that you keep an eye on the Uniterra site, as new volunteer postings are added throughout the month of September.

How to Apply

Applications for the 2012 program year have closed. Please check back in the fall of 2012 for the next round of applications.

Interview Schedule

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by representatives from UBC and Uniterra. This  is a mandatory requirement for those shortlisted. Interviews will be held  the week of Oct. 24, 2011.

Announcement

The announcement of the successful applicants will be made in the first week of November, 2011.

Eligibility Criteria

The Leave for Change program is open to UBC  staff who meet the following eligibility criteria:

Prospective applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Be a permanent staff employee of UBC who has successfully completed their probationary period for their current position (Note that faculty are not eligible for the Leave for Change program).
  • Must be a  Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Have no criminal record (This is a CIDA requirement) and be willing to provide a criminal records check.
  • Be in good health. You must be  eligible for the Leave for Change insurance program.
  • Be able to receive the following vaccines: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Malaria, Meningitis, Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Polio (if necessary).
  • Commit to a volunteer mandate with a partner in a developing country.
  • Agree to take part in a two-day pre-departure training and half-day post trip debriefing (preferably during weekdays).
  • Agree to participate in post-trip UBC leadership project.
  • Have enough vacation or personal leave time to participate in the program.
  • Be an active UBC employee at the time of the volunteer opportunity with Uniterra.

    Yes, Medicare supplement plans really helpful for the seniors and makes the health care affordable. They pay higher than ordinary medical insurance. We must be very careful while choosing the appropriate plan which will be suitable for our health condition.
